The Catán Foundation

To Colleagues, Associates and Admirers of

Daniel Catán

 the composer and the man

As we mourn the tragic loss of our great and gifted friend, we pause to think of the way we can best honor his life and contribution. I can think of nothing more fitting than a permanent institution to keep his music and spirit of generosity alive. Daniel ' s wife Andrea, his children Tom, Chloe and Alan, have established The Catán Foundation.

So tonight, as we honor his memory, we ask you to share this Memorial moment to help us in our efforts to sustain the Catán Foundation. The Foundation' s activities will keep alive his legacy by promoting future productions of Daniel's four completed operas, as well as the uncompleted Meet John Joe, which Daniel was composing when he was suddenly and cruelly taken from us.

Our other activities will include publication of his thoughtful essays on the contemporary opera world, opera in Spanish, and a major biography. Further the Foundation will serve as an educational institute, creating opportunities and scholarships for young composers and out reach to the greater Los Angeles Arts Community and the world.

Finally we will support Daniel's dream of providing the greatest public access to his work – exemplified by the free screenings of Il Postino Opera. I invite all lovers of Daniel's creations and passions to join us in helping bring this Foundation to life.

Gratefully,

Andrea Puente Catán
